My Mini Satins

10th place Mini Satin Open Sweeps

2008-2009

Random Thoughts

Mini Satin sweeps for 2009-2010 are about to close.  I was disappointed to miss about 6 weeks of shows in March and April due to an unexpected illness.  Luckily, I recovered just in time for NASS April 30-May 2!

I want to than my travelling buddy and closest friend, Becky Brim for transporting me there and back, and generally keeping me from stepping too far out of line.

Becky is my most vocal MIni Satin supporter,  Karen Vogts a close second, and Tonna Thomas is a reliable third!  A great group of gals that keep me focused.

I got to hang out with Billy Cooper a little bit at the National show and came home with a doe of his that delivered 9 babies about 3 weeks later!  At the Seward show I was fortunate to get an outstanding buck from Billy that we are both hoping will make a positive impact on my herd.

The "Satin Status Meter" in my barn is green for go.

I feel like I am back to 100% health-wise and am happy to say my W21 doe with her 8 BIS last year has come back after her litter in April and won a NINTH BIS June 12th!  I will keep my fingers crossed for continued success at  the double show this coming weekend!

When I first got my Mini Satins, I was considering discontinuing my Holland Lops altogether.  I got through my difficulties with the Hollands at that time and they remain my main focus.

Our area, OK, KS, MO, AR, TX and NE, is a hot bed of awfully good Mini Satins from experienced breeders.  I am very pleased with the success I have had, considering the very stiff competition I encounter on a regular basis.

I find that Mini Satins are quite easy to breed, cull and grow.

This is a hardy breed with rarely less than six in a litter.
